Ciner Glass has finalized a €504 million financing deal to fund the construction of a cutting-edge container glass production facility in Lommel, Belgium. The investment represents one of the largest foreign direct investments in Belgium in the past decade and marks a major step forward for the European glass packaging industry.
The new facility will feature two high-capacity furnaces, each capable of producing 650 tonnes of glass per day, supporting eight production lines. Once fully operational, the plant will reach a total production capacity of 1,300 tonnes per day, significantly boosting European supply and creating approximately 500 direct jobs.
The €504 million financing package is split evenly:
- €252 million in ECA-backed facilities, supported by SACE S.p.A., UK Export Finance, and SERV,
- €252 million in commercial facilities, partially guaranteed by Gigarant NV.
Leading financial institutions in the lending consortium include BNP Paribas, BNP Paribas Fortis, MUFG Bank, KBC Bank, Belfius Bank, Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, DHB Bank, Banco BPM, and ENBD Denizbank.
Gökhan Şen, CEO of Ciner Glass, called the investment a “significant milestone” and thanked the financial and governmental partners involved. He emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering environmentally responsible glass packaging and driving sustainable industrial growth in Europe.
Construction is well underway, with the facility expected to begin operations in Q2 2026, strengthening Europe’s container glass production capacity.
