Brushstrokes in Glass: Van Gogh’s Impasto Reimagined at 50 Hudson Yards

LASVIT

At the heart of New York City’s Hudson Yards, a stunning glass installation by Lasvit redefines what an office space can feel like. Collaborating with Foster + Partners and Ingrao Inc, the design team brought the “Brushstrokes in Glass” wall to life, inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s impasto technique, where thick, textured brushstrokes create depth and movement. Lasvit translated this painterly quality into glass, producing panels that appear to ripple and flow like liquid brushstrokes frozen in time.

Each panel, up to 2.5 meters tall, is crafted using the slumping technique, heating flat glass until it softens and conforms to custom molds. The result is a dynamic, tactile surface that plays with natural and artificial light, casting ever-changing reflections and shadows throughout the day. Modular by design, the panels can be arranged in countless configurations, allowing the installation to function as both a striking partition and a sculptural centerpiece.

The color palette ranges from muted smoke, gray, and nude to vibrant raspberry, violet, amber, and blue, complemented by metallic accents in polished or brushed stainless steel, bronze, gold, and champagne. In the reception area, a wave-like form echoes the curves of the desk below, seamlessly integrating the artwork into the space.

More than decoration, the “Brushstrokes in Glass” installation transforms the environment, inspiring creativity, elevating the workspace experience, and leaving a lasting impression on every visitor, a true meeting of art, architecture, and human-centered design.
