Bridgnorth Aluminium Invests £600,000 In New Equipment To Expand Thin-Gauge Finishing

Bridgnorth Aluminium has announced a £600,000 investment at its Stourbridge Road facility, strengthening its capability to serve new high-growth markets linked to heating, cooling, and thermal management applications. The move is being driven by rising opportunities in underfloor heating and cooling systems, particularly for the automotive sector and data centre infrastructure, where demand is accelerating for thinner, high-performance aluminium coil solutions.

At the centre of the project is the installation of a refurbished Schmutz finishing line, giving the company an in-house capability for finishing thinner gauge aluminium materials. This is a critical step for customers that require tight tolerances, consistent quality, and precise processing for advanced applications. The upgraded line will also support slitting and winding operations, enabling Bridgnorth Aluminium to deliver thin-gauge aluminium reels to customers across Wales, the EU, and the United States.

Commissioning of the new equipment is expected to be completed by March 2026. The investment comes shortly after the business returned to 24/7 operations in key process areas, signalling increased confidence in order volume and production planning. This operational ramp-up follows earlier improvements in the casting stage, including new molten metal filtration equipment designed to reduce impurities and enhance product quality consistency.

With these upgrades, Bridgnorth Aluminium is further positioning itself as a leader in flat rolled aluminium coils for a wide range of markets, including lithography, packaging, cooling and heating applications, electrification, and data-related end uses.

Commenting on the momentum, Commercial Director Adrian Musgrave highlighted strong early-year performance, with export orders rising, new domestic clients secured, and major capability improvements progressing despite ongoing global uncertainty. The new Schmutz line is also supporting growth on the workforce side, triggering a mini recruitment drive and a 10% increase in the finishing team, helping expand flexibility across multiple production lines.
