Beta Glass, a top producer of glass packaging in West and Central Africa, has achieved a world-class milestone with the rapid reconstruction of its DF1 container glass furnace at the Ughelli facility in Delta State, Nigeria. Completed in just 48 days, the project sets a new international record for furnace rebuild speed and precision.
The overhaul modernized a 250 tonnes-per-day, 70-square-metre furnace, boosting capacity, performance, and energy efficiency. The upgrade included the removal and replacement of 2,000 MT of refractories, installation of 90 tonnes of redesigned steel structures, and integration of cutting-edge equipment such as boosters, batch chargers, probes, and advanced draught systems.
Key improvements also featured AI-enabled inspection technology, new PLC controls, and dual NNPB and Blow & Blow forming systems to produce lightweight food jars. The plant’s infrastructure was renewed with stainless-steel utility lines, modern air and gas systems, and enhanced cooling and combustion ducts.
Under the leadership of COO Jagdish Agarwal, the rebuild was completed with zero safety incidents by a 130-member international team working non-stop. Strategic partnerships with BDF Industries, Furnotherm, All Glass, Bottero, and Tiama played a crucial role in delivering this industry-defining success.
