Solar Power Expansion: Ardagh Glass Packaging Boosts Renewable Energy Efforts with New Facility in Moerdijk
Ardagh Glass Packaging-Europe (AGP-Europe) continues to champion sustainability with the inauguration of its second solar power plant at the Moerdijk facility in the Netherlands. The glass packaging manufacturer, in collaboration with solar energy organization Zoncoalitie and energy supplier Eneco, unveils a project aimed at significantly reducing the facility’s carbon footprint by an estimated 725 tonnes of CO2 annually. This initiative marks the third on-site solar project for Ardagh Group in the Netherlands and aligns with the company’s commitment to utilizing 100% renewable electricity by 2030.
The latest solar power plant at Moerdijk follows the successful launch of Ardagh Group’s inaugural solar facility in the Netherlands, which has been providing renewable electricity to the AGP-Dongen facility since September of the previous year. The strategic partnership with Zoncoalitie and Eneco underscores Ardagh Group’s dedication to expanding its renewable energy portfolio.
Annelene Ikemann, Sustainability Director at AGP-Europe, emphasizes the impact of the Moerdijk solar installation, projected to generate over 2,500 MWh of electricity annually. This significant step aligns with the company’s ambitious goal of achieving 100% renewable electricity across AGP-Europe facilities by 2030, utilizing a combination of on-site and off-site installations. The collaboration not only exemplifies Ardagh Group’s commitment to sustainable practices but also positions them as leaders in the industry’s renewable energy initiatives.
