Carbon-Neutral Innovation: Pilkington Mirai™ Secures Independent Verification as the Epitome of Low Carbon Architectural Glass
Pilkington Mirai™, the groundbreaking architectural glass crafted by the NSG Group, has achieved a remarkable milestone by independently securing verification as the architectural glass with 52 percent less embodied carbon, firmly establishing itself as the pinnacle of low-carbon glass in its category. The validation comes through a newly released Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) dedicated to Pilkington Mirai™, introduced to the market in October of the previous year. This glass, born out of world-first proof-of-concept trials exploring alternative fuels in glassmaking by the NSG Group, aligns with the group’s commitment to reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, as certified by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
Kristian Chalmers, Global Strategic Commercial Manager in Architectural Glass SBU, emphasized, “Verification of Pilkington Mirai™ as the lowest carbon glass of its kind represents a major step forward for the built environment on its journey towards a new era of low embodied carbon buildings. The glass not only allows building designers to promptly enhance the carbon impact of their projects but also maintains the attributes and performance expected from regular architectural glass. The EPDs for Pilkington Mirai™ and our broader portfolio provide architects, developers, and asset owners with transformative glass options to fulfill their carbon objectives.”
