Alcoa, a global leader in the aluminum industry, has announced its participation in the World Economic Forum’s First Suppliers Hub.

This significant move underscores Alcoa’s commitment to driving sustainable practices and supporting the global effort to achieve industrial decarbonization by 2050.

The First Suppliers Hub, a database managed by the World Economic Forum’s First Movers Coalition (FMC), serves as a central repository for suppliers offering materials crucial to reducing carbon emissions across various industries. FMC members, including many leading global companies, have committed to ambitious targets for decarbonization within their supply chains. For primary aluminum, this includes a goal of sourcing at least 10% of their annual volumes from suppliers meeting or exceeding the Coalition’s stringent definition of “low-carbon” – less than 3 tonnes of CO2e per tonne of primary aluminum (cradle-to-gate).

Alcoa’s inclusion in the First Suppliers Hub significantly streamlines the process for FMC members seeking to fulfill these commitments. By joining the platform, Alcoa provides readily accessible information about its innovative, low-carbon aluminum production capabilities, simplifying the sourcing of sustainable materials for its customers.

This commitment is directly supported by Alcoa’s groundbreaking ELYSIS® technology. This innovative carbon-free smelting process represents a significant leap forward in aluminum production, dramatically reducing the carbon footprint associated with traditional methods. Alcoa’s participation in the Hub directly reflects its dedication to leveraging its technological advancements to help its customers and the broader industry achieve their decarbonization objectives.

“Alcoa’s breakthrough technologies support our customers’ decarbonization efforts now and into the future,” stated Renato Bacchi, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Alcoa. He emphasized the ease with which the Hub allows end-users to identify and access low-carbon aluminum, directly contributing to emissions reductions within their supply chains.

Alcoa’s proactive engagement with the First Suppliers Hub highlights its strategic approach to sustainable business practices. By actively participating in this global initiative, Alcoa is not only furthering its own sustainability goals, but is also playing a crucial role in accelerating the broader transition towards a low-carbon future for the aluminum industry and beyond. This commitment underscores Alcoa’s position as a leader in sustainable innovation and a key partner in the fight against climate change.
