AkzoNobel plans to close its powder coatings manufacturing plant in Nashville, Tennessee, by the end of 2026, resulting in the loss of 75 jobs, according to a report by USGlass Magazine published on 15 October 2026.
The Dutch coatings manufacturer confirmed that production currently carried out at the Nashville facility will be transferred to three other powder coatings manufacturing sites in Reading, Pennsylvania; Warsaw, Indiana; and Monterrey, Mexico. The move forms part of the company’s ongoing efforts to restructure its manufacturing operations and improve industrial efficiency.
AkzoNobel clarified that the closure applies exclusively to the powder coatings manufacturing plant. Its regional headquarters in Nashville will remain operational, with more than 117 employees continuing to work across sales, marketing, finance and other business support functions.
The decision aligns with the company’s Industrial Excellence initiative, introduced in 2023 to address supply-chain bottlenecks, insufficient investment at key sites and low production capacity utilisation.
The restructuring highlights the continued adjustment of manufacturing networks as major industrial companies seek to optimise production capacity and consolidate operations. For the coatings sector, such changes can also influence how production volumes are distributed across regional facilities and supply chains.
