The Ecuador Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 was designed as a vibrant showcase of Ecuador’s culture, nature, and innovation. Visitors were invited to “Discover Our Evolution” through a dynamic architectural language, with a multicolored façade inspired by traditional Ecuadorian textiles. The exterior shifted in tone and texture with every change of light, creating a living canvas that reflected the country’s rich heritage and ecological diversity.
The pavilion’s envelope was created using Kriskadecor’s Metal Fabric Outdoor Cladding, an anodized and lacquered aluminum chain system that combined artistic flexibility with technical precision. Each chain link measured 11.86 × 23.20 × 8 mm with a 2 mm thread thickness, forming a lightweight, semi-transparent façade with 69.79% open area. This design enhanced ventilation, solar control, UV protection, and significantly reduced heat gain, contributing to the building’s environmental performance.

Produced with 20% recycled aluminum, certified fire-resistant (Bs1d0), and wind-tested to 210 km/h, the façade spanned 765 m² and reached heights up to 10.5 meters. Remarkably, it was installed in just three days, highlighting the efficiency and precision of Kriskadecor’s system.
A decade later, the Ecuador Pavilion remains a benchmark for innovative aluminum façades, demonstrating how technical excellence, sustainability, and cultural storytelling can merge. Its dynamic, light-responsive exterior continues to inspire architects worldwide, proving that façade design can be both functional and a powerful medium for narrative and identity.
