Chudeřice, Czech Republic – AGC Automotive Czech,, a prominent leader in European automotive glass manufacturing, has officially broken ground on a new production line for laminated windshields, marking a significant step forward in its commitment to innovation and growth. This pivotal investment coincides with a momentous year for the Chudeřice plant, as it proudly celebrates its 100th anniversary of production, a testament to its enduring legacy in the glassmaking industry.
The new production line, designated CD-L5, represents a strategic enhancement to the plant’s capabilities, promising to substantially increase production capacity and technological sophistication. This expansion is also set to create 50 new jobs in the region, underscoring AGC Automotive Czech’s contribution to local economic development. As part of the Japanese glass giant AGC Inc.’s European automotive division, AGC Automotive Czech continues to uphold a standard of excellence and forward-thinking manufacturing.
At the heart of this new development is a commitment to advanced automation, designed to deliver unparalleled precision and efficiency in the manufacturing process. Once fully operational, the CD-L5 line is projected to produce over 1 million laminated windshields annually, a testament to its scale and potential impact on the automotive supply chain.
Zbyněk Slivoň, General Manager of AGC Automotive Czech, emphasized the strategic importance of this undertaking: “The CD-L5 line is a strategic investment for our Chudeřice plant. It not only increases our production capacity but also enables us to meet growing technological demands from our key automotive clients. We are proud to launch this new era in the same year we celebrate a century of glassmaking tradition.” This sentiment highlights the delicate balance between honoring a rich past and embracing a technologically advanced future.
The project is being meticulously rolled out in phases. Following preparatory work in late 2024, which included the dismantling of the previous production line, the facility is currently undergoing structural modifications. The installation of cutting-edge technology is slated for the second half of 2025, with trial production anticipated to commence by the end of Q1 2026. This comprehensive timeline reflects a commitment to a seamless and efficient transition. The construction efforts are being managed by reputable Czech firms Pohl a.s. and Klement construction a.s., while the advanced technology is being supplied by AGC Japan, showcasing a collaborative international effort.
Sustainability is a key pillar of AGC Automotive Czech’s vision for the future. A significant portion of the new line’s energy requirements will be met by AGC’s own photovoltaic power plant, which was commissioned last year. This integration of renewable energy sources underscores the company’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint and fostering a more sustainable manufacturing process.
The official groundbreaking ceremony was attended by a distinguished group of individuals, including representatives from AGC’s European Automotive Management, Richard Brabec, Governor of the Ústí nad Labem Region, and Zuzana Schwarz Bařtipánová, Mayor of the City of Bílina. Their presence signifies the widespread support and recognition of this significant investment.
In a poignant tribute to its centennial milestone, the company hosted a special Open Day on May 24th for employees and their families. This event, filled with a rich and engaging program, served as a celebration of the generations of dedication and craftsmanship that have shaped AGC Automotive Czech’s remarkable history in Chudeřice.
As AGC Automotive Czech embarks on this new chapter, it stands as a testament to the power of continuous innovation, strategic investment, and a deep-rooted commitment to both its heritage and a sustainable future in the global automotive industry.
