Optris Introduces Glass Tempering Scanner for Real-Time Temperature Monitoring

Optris GmbH & Co. KG has introduced its new Glass Tempering Scanner (GTS), a system designed to improve temperature monitoring and process control in glass tempering lines. The technology will be presented at glasstec 2026 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The GTS uses a single infrared camera equipped with 120° wide-angle optics to monitor temperature across a scanning width of up to 3.5 metres, covering most standard glass tempering furnaces. Wider configurations are available for larger production lines.

Designed for straightforward installation and commissioning, the compact, preconfigured system includes software that enables operators to configure scanning lines and access measurement data efficiently. It can operate independently of the furnace’s communication infrastructure, displaying temperature measurements and process information in real time while continuously recording production data.

The system also incorporates an automatic emergency shutter that protects the camera optics from falling hot glass fragments in the event of glass breakage. Scanning can be triggered by an external signal or an integrated infrared sensor that detects when the furnace door opens.

Optris will demonstrate the GTS at glasstec 2026, Hall 14, Booth F10, from 20–23 October in Düsseldorf, where visitors can explore its infrared temperature measurement technologies for glass manufacturing.
