Saint-Gobain Glass has launched COOL-LITE® XTREME 70/33 II with BIOCLEAN® II, a roof glazing solution combining solar control, thermal insulation and self-cleaning functionality in a single glazing configuration.
Designed specifically for rooflights, skylights, glazed atriums and pitched overhead glazing, the product is intended to reduce solar heat gain while maintaining high levels of natural daylight. It provides a solar factor (g-value) of 32% and light transmission of 68%, while the stated centre-pane U-value is 1.0 W/m²K.
The glazing combines the solar-control performance of COOL-LITE XTREME 70/33 II with BIOCLEAN II, Saint-Gobain Glass’s low-maintenance self-cleaning coating. The coating uses daylight to help break down organic dirt on the external glass surface, after which rainwater washes the loosened dirt away. This is particularly relevant to overhead glazing, where access for routine cleaning can be difficult.
According to Saint-Gobain Glass, BIOCLEAN II must be installed in a location exposed to daylight and at a sufficient angle to allow rainwater to flow freely across the glass surface. The coating has been tested in accordance with EN 1096-5, which assesses the durability and performance of coated glass under simulated environmental exposure conditions. 
The specified insulating glass configuration is 4/16/4 mm, with BIOCLEAN II on face 1, COOL-LITE XTREME 70/33 on face 2, and 90% argon, using PLANICLEAR 4 mm as the inner pane. In this configuration, Saint-Gobain reports 68% light transmission, 32% solar factor, 14% external reflection and 15% internal reflection.
COOL-LITE XTREME 70/33 II with BIOCLEAN II is available on 4 mm PLANICLEAR glass, with stock sizes up to 3210 × 2550 mm. Other dimensions are available on enquiry.
