SORG: Furnace at Shanghai Sediver Glass Successfully Commissioned Following Reconstruction

SORG has successfully completed the reconstruction and commissioning of a regenerative endport furnace for Shanghai Sediver Glass Co. Ltd in China, originally designed and built by the company in 2015 for the production of high-quality glass used in high-voltage electrical insulators.

As the furnace reached the scheduled stage for reconstruction, the installation was rebuilt and partially optimized to improve melting and glass conditioning performance. A key enhancement involved the redesign of the regenerators, which were enlarged to provide increased thermal capacity and support higher operational efficiency.

The furnace’s production capacity was increased from its original 110 tonnes per day (tpd) to 130 tpd, while a third production line was added. To support the expansion, SORG designed and supplied a new SORG 240S+® forehearth, ensuring consistent glass conditioning for the additional production line.

As part of the reconstruction project, SORG also engineered and supplied essential equipment, including the reversal system, electrode holders, air/gas stations, gas supply station, and combustion air fans. In addition, the facility’s SCADA system was upgraded to accommodate the modified plant configuration and process requirements.

The complete furnace reconstruction was carried out under SORG’s technical supervision and was completed in 70 days from glass to glass, after which the furnace was successfully recommissioned. SORG expressed its appreciation to Shanghai Sediver Glass Co. Ltd for its continued trust and collaboration, while wishing the company a long and successful furnace campaign.
