Renovation and retrofit work continues to provide significant opportunities for contract glaziers, according to a recent survey conducted by Key Media & Research (KMR), the parent company of USGlass magazine. While new construction activity remains uncertain in some sectors, many glazing contractors report that retrofit projects have become a steady and growing source of business.
The survey found that aging office buildings, outdated storefront systems, institutional facilities, and repositioned commercial properties are driving demand for modernization projects. Building owners are increasingly investing in upgrades that improve energy efficiency, enhance appearance, and extend the lifespan of existing structures rather than pursuing new construction.
Many contractors indicated that renovation and retrofit work now accounts for a substantial portion of their overall revenue. Commonly installed products include insulated glass units, high-performance glazing systems, curtainwall replacements, and upgraded storefront solutions designed to meet modern performance standards.
Despite ongoing challenges such as labor shortages, material costs, and project scheduling issues, respondents expressed confidence in the market’s outlook. The continued need to improve older buildings and comply with evolving energy regulations is expected to support demand in the years ahead.
