A New Era for European Aluminium: Paul Warton Appointed Chairman

Paul Warton has been appointed Chairman of the European Aluminium association.

The Executive Vice President of Hydro Extrusions succeeds Philipp Schlüter of Trimet Aluminium.

Mr Warton said: “As the world becomes increasingly complex and volatile, it’s more important that the industry come together to discuss important topics like sustainability, fair trade and robustness of the aluminium industry.

“I’m looking forward to leading the work of European Aluminium going forward.”

European Aluminium was founded in 1981 and is a member-based industry association representing Europe’s most complete and thriving metals value chain.

Based in Brussels, the organisation has more than 100 members including primary aluminium producers, downstream manufacturers of extruded, rolled and cast aluminium, producers of recycled aluminium, and national aluminium associations, representing more than 600 plants in 30 European countries.

He added: “Aluminium is the backbone of Europe’s green transition and for critical sectors like automotive, packaging, building, aerospace, defense, and renewable energy technologies, aluminium is indispensable to achieving the EU’s climate and resilience goals.

“Europe needs to lead the way in sustainable aluminium production and European Aluminium is a driving force to achieve the necessary frame conditions for our industry.”

At the same time, European Aluminium appointed Matt Schicke, General Manager, Atlantic Aluminum Sales & Trading at Rio Tinto to its executive committee, and Guillaume de Goys, CEO of Aluminium Dunkerque, who joins as Treasurer of the Executive Committee.

Mr Warton had previously held the position of Treasurer of Executive Committee of European Aluminium.

Mr Warton has been Head of Hydro Extrusions since 2021, with more than 30 years of experience from global aluminium and extrusion industry.
