Vitro Architectural Glass revolutionizes thermal efficiency with the introduction of Sungate ThermL™

Vitro Architectural Glass raises the bar in thermal performance with the launch of Sungate ThermL™ glass, a groundbreaking low-emissivity (low-e) coating meticulously engineered for application on the interior surface of standard one-inch insulating glass units (IGUs). This advanced coating is designed to minimize heat transfer, delivering a remarkable enhancement in U-values when paired with Solarban® solar control low-e glass by Vitro on the second surface.

Erin Casci, Product Manager for MSVD Coated Products at Vitro Architectural Glass, expressed enthusiasm about the unveiling of Sungate ThermL™ glass. Casci highlighted the distinctive attributes of the coating, stating, “We’re pleased to unveil Sungate ThermL™ glass, our new U-value enhancing low-e coating that enables superior thermal performance without changing the visual characteristics of the IGU because of its colorless and low reflective aesthetic.” Casci emphasized the unique feature of Sungate ThermL™ glass, preserving the original look and feel of uncoated glass while facilitating high visible light transmittance (VLT) and expanding possibilities for high-performance configurations in modern glazing projects. The introduction of Sungate ThermL™ glass reaffirms Vitro’s ongoing commitment to delivering sustainable solutions within the glass industry.

When integrated into a one-inch IGU with a half-inch airspace containing argon and Solarban® 70 glass on the second surface, Sungate ThermL™ glass achieves an impressive U-value of 0.19. This marks a notable 21% improvement compared to using Solarban® 70 glass alone. The performance advantages extend to a VLT of 63% and a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.27. In a similar configuration with Solarban® 60 glass on the second surface, Sungate ThermL™ glass on the fourth surface provides a U-value of 0.20, offering a 20% enhancement over using Solarban® 60 glass alone. This combination results in a VLT of 69% and an SHGC of 0.38.

Sungate ThermL™ glass is now available exclusively through Vitro Authorized® and Vitro Certified® fabricators, offering a versatile solution wherever heightened insulation performance is a priority. The durability and resistance to mechanical abrasion make Sungate ThermL™ glass a reliable choice, ensuring long-lasting performance and visual appeal.
