India’s Vedanta Aluminium has delivered its highest-ever quarterly aluminium production, reaching 632 kilotonnes (Kt) in the quarter ended June 30, 2026, a 5% year-on-year increase from 605 Kt. The company attributed the record performance to improved operational efficiency, particularly at its newer smelting facilities, following its recent demerger.
A standout performer was BALCO, where aluminium production rose 17% year-on-year, increasing from 144 Kt to 168 Kt. Vedanta confirmed that the ongoing BALCO expansion remains on schedule, with efforts focused on ensuring operational stability and efficiency as additional capacity comes online. The company expects the expanded facility to reach full capacity utilisation by the fourth quarter.
Alumina production climbed 41% year-on-year to 826 Kt, supported by expanded refining capacity. However, output declined 6% compared with the previous quarter due to unplanned shutdowns affecting operations.
Financially, Vedanta posted a consolidated net profit of 56.29 billion rupees (US$588.6 million), compared with 17.81 billion rupees in the same quarter last year. The company also benefited from stronger aluminium prices, driven by supply disruptions in the Middle East, constrained Chinese production, and sustained global demand.
