Technoform Adhesion Prime Enables Direct Bonding for High-Performance Aluminium Façade Systems

Technoform has introduced Adhesion Prime, a new surface technology designed to improve the bond between silicone sealants and polyamide (PA) thermal barriers used in aluminium windows, doors, curtain walls and façade systems.

The technology modifies the surface of PA strips, allowing glass or metal components to be bonded directly to the thermal barrier without the use of chemical primers or additional fastening elements. According to Technoform, this simplifies assembly processes, reduces component requirements, lowers structural weight and helps manufacturers optimise production efficiency.

The innovation works by creating a micro-layer of aluminium oxide (alumina) particles embedded into the polyamide surface. This engineered “micro-aluminium profile” forms a strong interlayer between the polymer thermal barrier and silicone adhesive, improving adhesion while maintaining the thermal properties and recyclability of the PA material.

Adhesion Prime has been developed to support structural sealant glazing (SSG) applications and meets the structural requirements of ASTM C1401 – Standard Guide for Structural Glazing Sealants. By enabling stronger connections between glazing materials and thermal barriers, the solution contributes to improved façade performance, including enhanced thermal insulation, condensation resistance and acoustic comfort.
