Ventana was responsible for the design, fabrication and installation of the building’s exterior glazing systems, including the aluminium curtain wall and window wall systems, under a subcontract valued at approximately $14 million. However, the court found that the contractor’s work was repeatedly disrupted by poor coordination of subcontractors, defective concrete construction and improper rebar placement, which prevented the glazing systems from being installed as planned.

According to the ruling, Tutor Perini failed to supervise concrete pours adequately, resulting in reinforcing steel being positioned incorrectly. Ventana was also forced to deal with debris left by other trades, restricting access and delaying the transportation and installation of façade components throughout the project.

The court further determined that Tutor Perini acted in bad faith by concealing its knowledge of concrete defects, blaming Ventana for delays, withholding payments without justification and refusing to approve legitimate change orders. The judge also dismissed the testimony of Tutor Perini’s damages expert, describing the evidence as lacking credibility.

Significantly, the court ruled that Tutor Perini could not enforce the subcontract’s “no damages for delay” clause because its own active interference caused the disruptions. The decision follows another major judgment issued earlier this year, when developer Chestlen Development secured more than $174 million in damages against Tutor Perini over the same W Hotel project, which opened in Philadelphia in 2021.

The investment follows the successful installation of the company’s first FMC 340 in 2023, which delivered significant improvements in production efficiency, precision, and reliability. Building on these results, Selectaglaze chose to invest in a second machine as part of a planned replacement of older equipment and its wider strategy to modernise manufacturing operations.

According to Duncan Saunders, Head of Production at Selectaglaze, the original FMC 340 proved its value by increasing automation across the factory while delivering the accuracy and performance required for the company’s bespoke secondary glazing products. As a result, selecting the same machine again was a straightforward decision.

The new investment forms part of Selectaglaze’s broader vision to create a more connected and efficient production environment. The company is currently implementing a barcode system throughout its factory, supporting its long-term objective of moving towards a fully paperless manufacturing process.

Once fully implemented, the system will enable manufacturing data, dimensions, and cutting programmes to be integrated directly into both CNC machining centres. This will streamline workflows, improve operational efficiency, and minimise the risk of production errors through greater automation and digital connectivity.

Haffner worked closely with the Selectaglaze team throughout the project, tailoring software configurations to align with the company’s future automation goals. The installation was completed with minimal disruption, with the machine fully installed, commissioned, and operational within just two days.

The £4.5 million Tai Porth Llechog development, delivered by AH2 Developments, occupies the former site of the Bull Bay Hotel overlooking Bull Bay on Anglesey’s rugged northern coastline. The project has converted a long-derelict location into an exclusive collection of 13 luxury properties, including apartments, detached homes, a dormer bungalow and a mews house.

Given the development’s exposed cliff-top setting, glazing performance was a critical consideration throughout the design and construction process. Main contractor DU Construction Ltd selected Profile 22 and PatioMaster systems manufactured by approved commercial partner Heritage Trade Frames to meet both aesthetic and technical requirements.

The coastal location presented significant environmental challenges, including strong winds, driving rain and continuous exposure to harsh marine conditions. To ensure long-term durability and occupant comfort, the installed products were required to achieve severe weather performance ratings in accordance with BS6375 standards. This included air permeability and water tightness ratings of 600Pa, together with wind resistance performance of up to 2400Pa.

A total of 80 Profile 22 Flush Casement windows and seven Profile 22 French doors were manufactured for the project, alongside several PatioMaster sliding door configurations and composite entrance doors. The flush casement design was chosen for its ability to replicate the appearance of traditional timber frames while delivering the thermal efficiency, low-maintenance benefits and weather resistance associated with modern PVC-U systems.

Finished in anthracite grey externally and white internally, the glazing package complements the development’s contemporary coastal architecture while maximising uninterrupted views of the Irish Sea.

The Schüco ADS 80 FR 30 system delivers 30 minutes of fire resistance and has been tested to EN 1364 and EN 1634 standards. Unlike traditional methods that rely on frame packers, spacers, or mastic to conceal installation gaps, Robust UK’s adjustable extension system creates a cleaner and more professional finish. The company says the innovation not only enhances aesthetics but also helps reduce the risk of costly remakes caused by inaccurate site measurements or uneven structural openings.

The adjustable head extensions are fitted using jacking screws and can be trimmed on-site to achieve an exact fit. According to the company, the system increases allowable gap tolerance from 10mm to 15mm, enabling installers to complete projects more efficiently while maintaining a high-quality appearance. By eliminating the need for mastic application, projects can also avoid delays and additional labour requirements.

Mahon Windows had previously invested in an Emmegi Phantomatic M3 and a Someco 4TVH in-line welder, both supplied and commissioned by Emmegi’s specialist Irish sales and engineering team. Following the performance of those systems, the company selected the Someco SBZ SM11 CNC sawing and machining centre to support increasing production demands and future expansion plans.

Located in Athlone, Mahon Windows operates across both trade and commercial sectors, with a focus on precision fabrication and consistent production quality. According to James O’Connell, Emmegi’s Sales Manager for Ireland, the SBZ SM11 was identified as the ideal solution due to its advanced automation features and compatibility with Mahon’s existing Someco welding systems.

The SBZ SM11 is a 13-axis CNC machining centre designed for milling, cutting, and welding preparation of PVC profiles. The system incorporates a through-feed bar design for continuous high-speed processing, profile verification technology, and eleven electrospindles capable of machining all sides of the profile. It also features an integrated contouring module optimised for Seamless® welding preparation.

The machine was linked to Forterro’s Evolution manufacturing software, enabling Industry 4.0-ready production tracking and remote diagnostics functionality.
