SORG Group Delivers Second Glass Melting Furnace to ARGLASS

The SORG Group has successfully completed the delivery and commissioning of a second advanced glass melting furnace for ARGLASS at its Valdosta plant in Georgia, USA. The new installation became fully operational in the fall of 2025, marking another milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the two companies following the first SORG furnace installed in 2021.

The latest project features a 151 m² Oxi-Melter furnace, designed for the production of flint soda-lime glass used in container manufacturing. The furnace integrates a complete glass conditioning system aimed at ensuring stable melt quality, improved energy efficiency, and consistent production performance.

At the core of the conditioning system is a SORG STW distribution channel connected to four SORG 340S+® forehearths. One forehearth is equipped with feeder colouring capabilities, while preparations have already been made to install a second colouring device in the future, offering operational flexibility as production demands evolve.

Batch charging is managed through two EME-NEND® R2 batch chargers with integrated control systems, supporting reliable feeding and process control. Beyond furnace engineering and design, SORG supplied the oxygen and gas systems, heating technologies, electrical boosting equipment, and a software-controlled SCADA system for advanced monitoring and automation.

As part of the turnkey execution, SKS, another member of the SORG Group, handled steel fabrication, refractory installation, construction works, as well as the heating-up and initial melting process. The project included complete engineering, material supply, piping, cabling, and commissioning services, resulting in a fully integrated greenfield installation.

According to project stakeholders, construction, equipment installation, and furnace start-up were completed smoothly, demonstrating effective collaboration between ARGLASS and the SORG teams.

This second successful order further strengthens the partnership between the two companies and reflects their shared focus on energy-efficient, high-performance glass manufacturing in the United States. With this new furnace now in operation, ARGLASS expands its production capabilities while benefiting from advanced furnace technology designed to support long-term growth.
