Completed in 2011, Palm Towers is a pair of high-rise office buildings in Doha’s West Bay district, Qatar. Designed by MZ Architects, the twin towers rise approximately 245 metres, with 58 floors each. Their architectural identity draws on the date palm, a familiar symbol throughout Qatar and the wider Gulf region, translated into a contemporary composition of geometric forms, glazed surfaces and projecting façade elements.
The project’s defining feature is the relationship between the towers’ hexagonal geometry and their layered façades. Rather than presenting uninterrupted glass elevations, the design combines large glazed surfaces with projecting box-like elements, recessed areas and vertical stainless-steel fins. These components create depth across the elevations, producing a changing pattern of reflections and shadows as daylight conditions shift.

Glass plays a central role in this composition. The glazed surfaces interact with the projecting elements and metal detailing, emphasising the towers’ geometry while breaking down the visual scale of the buildings. The arrangement of glazing and solid-looking projections gives the façades a distinctly three-dimensional character, linking the architectural concept to the towers’ overall form.
Project documentation from Shenzhen Hongjia Glass Products Company identifies the company as a glass and cladding supplier for Palm Towers. Its documented glass specification includes a 10 mm clear, acid-etched tempered glass panel with white back-painting, a grey backing layer and chamfered edges. The acid-etched finish creates a diffused, translucent appearance, while the backing layers contribute to the panel’s final visual effect. This specification provides a closer look at one of the glass products associated with the project, although it should not be taken as confirmation that every façade panel uses the same build-up.

The development brought together an international project team. MZ Architects was responsible for the architectural design, with Hill International providing project management and Al Seal Contracting & Trading Co. W.L.L. serving as the main contractor. Alutec WLL is identified as the aluminium and glazing contractor, while DAR Investment is listed as the owner/developer. Other documented suppliers include KONE for elevators and Doka for formwork.
