Nuevas Torres Colón Achieves WELL Core Platinum Certification, Strengthening Its Sustainable Transformation

Luis Vidal + Architects has announced that Nuevas Torres Colón has been awarded WELL Core Platinum certification, the highest level under the WELL Building Standard, administered by the International WELL Building Institute. The achievement highlights the project’s commitment to creating healthier, more sustainable, and high-performing workplaces through the rehabilitation of existing buildings.

The WELL Core Platinum certification is independently verified and evaluates how a building supports occupant health and wellbeing across multiple categories. These include indoor air quality, water quality, lighting, thermal and acoustic comfort, material selection, opportunities for movement, mental wellbeing, and innovation.

Achieving the highest certification level demonstrates that Nuevas Torres Colón meets rigorous international standards designed to enhance the experience, health, and productivity of building users.

The recognition adds to an already impressive portfolio of sustainability credentials. Nuevas Torres Colón previously received the AEO A+ rating, the highest distinction awarded by the Spanish Association of Offices for technical quality and workspace efficiency. The development also holds LEED Gold certification and complies with the nZEB standard, reflecting its strong environmental performance and energy efficiency.

Together, these certifications position Nuevas Torres Colón as a benchmark for the adaptive reuse of existing commercial buildings. Rather than relying solely on new construction, the project demonstrates how refurbishment can significantly improve environmental performance while prioritising occupant wellbeing.

According to Luis Vidal + Architects, the latest certification reinforces the importance of transforming the existing building stock into resilient, sustainable workplaces capable of meeting the evolving expectations of businesses and their occupants. The project illustrates how health-focused design, operational efficiency, and sustainability can be successfully integrated into the regeneration of urban office buildings.
