NSG Group, a global leader in flat glass, has officially joined ResponsibleGlass as a founding member, becoming the first company in the flat glass industry to participate in this new global sustainability initiative. ResponsibleGlass, a UK-based non-profit organization, aims to establish the first international standards for responsibly produced glass across the entire value chain.

The initiative will focus on both environmental and social responsibility, covering areas such as carbon reduction, recycling, waste management, water stewardship, biodiversity, health and safety, human rights, and ethics and compliance. By developing a global certification scheme, ResponsibleGlass intends to provide transparency and guidance, helping consumers and businesses make informed and responsible choices.

Currently, certification systems exist for other materials, including the Forest Stewardship Council for wood, ResponsibleSteel for steel, and the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative, but the glass industry has lacked a unified framework, until now. ResponsibleGlass brings together a wide range of stakeholders to create these standards over the coming years, aiming to make glass production more sustainable and socially responsible.
