As the glass manufacturing industry continues to evolve, the importance of properly maintaining the equipment used in the production process has become increasingly crucial.

One critical component that requires meticulous attention is the glass tempering furnace, which plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and safety of the final product.

According to the experts at LandGlass, a leading manufacturer of glass tempering furnaces, there are several key maintenance procedures that should be carried out to ensure the smooth operation and longevity of this essential piece of equipment.

Lubricating the Trapezoidal Screw
To ensure that the glass tempering furnace body lifts smoothly, it is essential to lubricate the trapezoidal screw after each lift. This should be done by spraying #46 lubricating oil from the top of the glass tempering furnace pillar, ensuring that the oil coats the entire surface of the screw.

Maintaining the Bevel Gear Drive
The bevel gear drive of the tempering furnace body also requires regular maintenance. LandGlass recommends applying a lithium-based grease to this component on a quarterly basis, helping to ensure smooth and efficient operation.

Monitoring the Lift Motor Reducer
The lift motor reducer, located at the top of the glass tempering furnace, is another critical component that requires attention. It is essential to keep the lubricant oil at the mid-level of the oil window, and the lubricant should be replaced annually. LandGlass suggests using #30 or #40 oil, with #40 oil being the preferred choice in conditions of particularly high temperatures due to its higher maximum temperature tolerance and superior oil stability.

By following these maintenance guidelines, glass manufacturers can ensure that their glass tempering furnaces continue to operate at peak efficiency, minimizing downtime and maximizing the lifespan of this essential equipment. Regular maintenance not only helps to maintain the furnace’s performance but also contributes to the overall quality and consistency of the final glass products, ultimately benefiting both the manufacturer and the end-user.
