Glaston Corporation has reached a settlement in a U.S. patent infringement case concerning its proprietary glass tempering technology, ending litigation that began in December 2021.
Glaston filed the lawsuit against Salem Fabrication Technologies Group, Inc., doing business as HHH Equipment Resources, alleging infringement of two Glaston patents covering its proprietary glass tempering technology. Salem Fabrication Technologies Group is the North American partner of Shanghai Northglass Technology & Industry Co. Ltd.
The litigation has now been fully resolved through a settlement agreement between the parties. Glaston confirmed that the terms of the settlement are confidential and did not disclose financial compensation, licensing arrangements, restrictions on technology use or other conditions agreed by the parties.
The case concerns technology within Glaston’s glass tempering portfolio, a critical area of glass processing used to produce safety glass with enhanced mechanical strength and thermal resistance. Tempering equipment is widely used in the architectural, automotive and mobility, display and solar glass sectors. 
Miika Äppelqvist, CEO of Glaston Corporation, described the proceedings as a “long and demanding” case and said the resolution reinforces the strength of Glaston’s technology portfolio and its commitment to protecting innovations that create value for customers.
The settlement also underscores the competitive importance of intellectual property in the global glass-processing equipment industry. Advanced tempering technologies can affect production performance, glass quality, energy efficiency and processing capabilities, making patent protection strategically significant for equipment manufacturers.
Glaston stated that it will continue to actively protect and enforce its intellectual property rights worldwide, positioning IP protection as an important component of its long-term strategy.
