Glaston Partners with Leadus to Advance Vacuum Insulating Glass Production

Glaston has announced a new cooperation with Leadus, a specialist in vacuum insulating glass (VIG) technology, aimed at accelerating the development of advanced manufacturing solutions for next-generation glazing. The partnership focuses on creating integrated production solutions that support the growing demand for VIG, a technology increasingly recognised for its superior thermal performance and slim profile.

As energy-efficiency standards become stricter across global construction markets, vacuum insulated glass is gaining momentum among architects, façade engineers and processors. Unlike traditional insulating glass units, VIG consists of two panes separated by a vacuum gap, dramatically reducing heat transfer while maintaining a lightweight and thin structure. This combination positions VIG as a promising solution for both high-performance new builds and renovation projects where space and weight are critical considerations.

A key technical requirement in VIG production is glass flatness, which directly impacts sealing reliability and long-term performance. Glaston brings its expertise in tempering technology to this collaboration, delivering high levels of flatness that support stable and efficient manufacturing processes. According to Kimmo Kuusela, EVP Sales & Service EMEA & APAC at Glaston, precision tempering plays a crucial role in enabling reliable VIG production at scale.

By combining Glaston’s advanced tempering capabilities with Leadus’s specialised knowledge in vacuum glass processing, the two companies aim to accelerate industrial development and encourage broader adoption of VIG among glass processors. The cooperation reflects a wider industry trend in which manufacturers adapt existing production lines to accommodate emerging high-performance glass concepts.

Ultimately, the partnership reinforces Glaston’s strategy of advancing glass processing technology through industry collaboration, while supporting sustainable construction solutions aligned with evolving energy and performance requirements in the built environment.
