Glass Fibre Europe has welcomed the European Commission’s proposal to add fibre-reinforced polymer composite waste to the EU’s green list under the Waste Shipment Regulation.
The proposed new BEU06 entry would cover non-hazardous waste consisting of fibre-reinforced polymer composites, including materials such as glass fibre embedded in polymer resins. The measure aims to establish a clearer and more harmonised framework for shipments of composite waste destined for recycling within the EU.
Glass Fibre Europe says that while glass fibre waste is already covered by the existing GE020 green-list entry, composite materials containing glass fibre have faced less consistent classification across Member States. In some cases, this has resulted in additional notification requirements and higher administrative costs.
The proposed BEU06 entry could simplify eligible intra-EU shipments, making it easier for composite waste to reach specialised recycling facilities. According to Glass Fibre Europe, improved access to waste streams is also important for building recycling capacity and supporting investment in new technologies. 
The organisation is also calling for further action through the forthcoming Circular Economy Act and related waste legislation, including dedicated EU waste codes for end-of-life composite materials.
