The Tirana Vertical Forest project by ALCA Sh.p.k. has received recognition at the XXIII Concorso Internazionale d’Autore, promoted by METRA. From over 125 international submissions, the project was selected among only 15 winners in the “Best New Construction – Tertiary Sector” category, sharing the honor with Stefano Boeri Architetti, the acclaimed architects behind the building’s visionary design.

The award highlights a vision of sustainable urban reforestation, embodied by a building that integrates over 10 trees and 3,500 plants into its façades, enhancing air quality, boosting energy efficiency, fostering a new urban ecosystem, and blending seamlessly with the surrounding greenery.

Situated in central Tirana, this 21-storey high-rise sets a new benchmark for sustainable urban development in the construction and façade industry. The building integrates over 100 trees and 3,500 plants across its balconies and façades, creating a living façade system that enhances air quality, reduces urban heat, supports biodiversity, and improves residents’ well-being, all while harmonizing with the surrounding urban landscape.

ALCA’s role was critical in translating the architectural vision into reality. Collaborating with METRA Building, the team designed and installed a bespoke aluminum and glazing façade system, engineered to support heavy vegetation while ensuring energy efficiency and structural reliability.

The project involved 14 custom aluminum molds, 3 specialized rubber molds, and 5 tailored accessories, highlighting ALCA’s expertise in high-performance façade systems and complex building envelope solutions.

Representing ALCA at the award ceremony in Milan were Carlo Zaka (COO) and Elvi Xhaxho (Technical Director), who shared the recognition with their entire team, marking both a significant professional achievement and a moment of team celebration.

The Tirana Vertical Forest exemplifies how advanced façade technology and sustainable design can intersect to redefine urban architecture. For ALCA, the project demonstrates the company’s capability to deliver innovative, environmentally responsible solutions that push the boundaries of construction engineering, setting new standards for future urban developments in Albania and beyond.
