Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” is undergoing a major expansion programme aimed at transforming the airport into one of the leading aviation hubs in Southeast Europe. Originally opened in 2001 as part of Greece’s modern infrastructure development ahead of the 2004 Olympic Games, the airport has experienced sustained passenger growth in recent years, driving the need for significant capacity upgrades and architectural renewal.
The expansion focuses on enlarging the main terminal and associated facilities to accommodate increasing passenger demand while improving operational efficiency and the overall travel experience. Plans include new terminal extensions, upgraded check-in and baggage handling areas, expanded retail and hospitality zones, and improved passenger circulation. In addition, new aircraft stands and supporting infrastructure are being developed to increase airport flexibility and handling capacity.

Within this framework, Yalodomi supplied the glasses for the expansion of the “Eleftherios Venizelos” Airport, meeting the high safety and quality requirements of the project. With expertise in the industrial production and installation of glass, the company ensures the reliability and functionality of each construction, supporting the demanding technical specifications required for large-scale infrastructure projects such as airports.

Supplying glazing for aviation facilities requires precision engineering, strict compliance with safety regulations, and the ability to deliver consistent quality at scale. The integration of advanced glass solutions helps create durable façades and interior environments capable of handling intensive daily use while maintaining visual clarity and thermal performance.

The expansion is also part of a broader strategy to increase the airport’s capacity toward approximately 40 million passengers annually over the coming years, reinforcing Athens’ position as a strategic gateway between Europe, the Balkans, and the Eastern Mediterranean.
