Sisecam, the leading glass manufacturer, has announced the eagerly awaited start date for its glass packaging production in Kaposvár, Hungary. With a planned launch in September 2024, the company’s technical manager shared this exciting development, indicating a significant step forward for the region.

The Next Chapter Begins: State-of-the-Art Glass Packaging Facility in Kaposvár

Sisecam’s highly anticipated glass packaging plant is set to become the first of its kind in Hungary. With a remarkable investment of €400 million, surpassing the initial estimation of €220 million, this state-of-the-art facility is poised to begin operations in 2023. The company’s commitment to Hungary is not only evident in this grand endeavor but also in the employment opportunities it creates for a thousand individuals.

Revolutionizing the Glass Packaging Landscape

Spanning an impressive 112,000 square meters, the new facility is expected to employ 350 people at full capacity. It will produce a staggering daily output of 550 tonnes of glass packaging, including bottles for soft drinks and preserves, catering to both local and international markets. Sisecam’s unwavering dedication to quality and innovation ensures that their products meet the diverse needs of customers worldwide.

Established in 1935, Sisecam stands as a testament to excellence in the glass industry. With 45 factories and a workforce of 24,000 employees worldwide, the company annually produces over 5.6 million tonnes of glass products, serving more than 150 countries. This investment in Kaposvár represents a historic milestone, showcasing Sisecam’s commitment to innovation and growth on a grand scale.

A Landmark Collaboration

The construction of the Kaposvár glass plant marks the largest investment in the city’s history. Sisecam will utilize 15-16 hectares within the 33-hectare industrial park, solidifying their commitment to Hungary and the local community. The Kaposvári Fejlesztési Központ’s executive director, Péter Dombi, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, highlighting the positive economic impact it will bring to the region.

For the realization of this ambitious project, Sisecam has partnered with Dogus Építőipari és Kereskedelmi Részvénytársaság, a renowned Turkish construction company. With over 70 years of experience and a portfolio that includes 250 strategic investments across Turkey, the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe, Dogus brings a wealth of expertise to the table. Their impressive track record encompasses the construction of 1540 kilometers of roads, 49 kilometers of viaducts, bridges, over 380 kilometers of metro and railway lines, tunnels, as well as 21 dams and hydroelectric power plants.
