Deceuninck’s Elegant Windows Transform Horlicks Quarter, Slough

The iconic Horlicks Quarter has a fresh new face, thanks to Deceuninck’s ultra-energy-efficient composite window system, Elegant. Specified by Berkeley Homes for their Building J, the development features 773 tilt-and-turn windows in the 76 mm Elegant system, combining high-performance, sustainability, and sleek design.

Manufactured by Lincoln-based fabricator Sternfenster, the windows incorporate Decoroc, Deceuninck’s patented PVC-U colour coating, delivering the look of powder-coated aluminium in a cost-effective, scratch- and impact-resistant finish.

Nick Page-Smith, Operations Director at Berkeley Homes, explained the decision:

Sustainability, embodied carbon, end-of-life considerations, and recycled content all affect window choice for commercial projects. Elegant offered design flexibility, strength for high-rise use, and superior acoustic performance – all critical for the Horlicks Quarter.

With U-values as low as 0.7 W/m²K, Elegant exceeds current building regulations, future-proofing the development. The system features ThermoFibra, a glass fibre-reinforced sash, paired with Forthex, an extruded insulated thermal reinforcement. Embedded steel wires in a low-density foam core replace traditional steel, making the windows 30% more thermally efficient while maintaining strength.

Elegant’s slim sightlines and minimalist aesthetics replicate aluminium, creating a premium architectural look with reduced maintenance. Decoroc finishes are available in a wide palette, offering designers versatility without compromising durability.

Supply logistics and installation were seamless:

Fluid delivery and just-in-time scheduling through Sternfenster and Deceuninck minimized on-site materials and disruption. On-site support ensured compliance with the Building Safety Act and Golden Thread, and quality was checked throughout installation.

Page-Smith noted

Deceuninck Elegant is designed specifically for the commercial sector, emphasizing energy efficiency, end-of-life recyclability, and reduced CO₂ emissions. Its combination of performance, sustainability, and contemporary design makes it a standout choice for developers looking to elevate high-rise residential projects.

The Horlicks Quarter project demonstrates how modern composite windows are reshaping commercial architecture, merging technical excellence with a sleek, urban aesthetic.
