Adelaide House, one of London’s earliest steel-framed buildings, has been carefully restored with a full suite of new windows from Crittall Windows, exactly 100 years after the originals were first installed. Located on the north bank of the River Thames, the Grade II listed office building has undergone a sensitive refurbishment that respects its historic character while upgrading performance.
Crittall’s Corporate W20 Evo windows were selected for their ability to replicate the slim sightlines, hardware, and proportions of the original 1920s design, while meeting modern standards for thermal efficiency and durability. The project required close attention to heritage and planning requirements to ensure the building’s iconic façade remained unchanged.
Originally completed in 1924, Adelaide House was designed in the Art Deco style by Sir John Burnet and Thomas S. Tait, incorporating subtle Egyptian influences. At the time, it was the tallest office building in London and a pioneer of steel-frame construction.
