BA Glass Group Enhances Recycling Capabilities through Acquisition of Recresco
In a strategic move to bolster its commitment to sustainability, the BA Glass Group has successfully acquired Recresco, a prominent UK-based glass recycling company. The completion of this acquisition on December 20th, 2023, marks a significant milestone for both entities, ushering in a new era for Recresco’s recycling operations in the UK and paving the way for potential Europe-wide initiatives to align with the sustainability drive of the BA Glass Group. The incorporation of Recresco into the BA Glass Group not only promises to strengthen current recycling operations but also opens avenues for collaborative growth, leveraging the expertise of Recresco’s experienced team.
Sandra Santos, CEO of BA Glass, expressed the importance of this acquisition in advancing the group’s sustainability goals, stating, “The acquisition of Recresco is an extremely valuable opportunity to access high-quality recycled glass, representing a significant step towards our goal of reducing 50% of CO2 emissions by 2035. Incorporating a higher percentage of recycled glass in our products will allow us to be nearer to closing the glass loop and making glass the most sustainable packaging material in the world.”
Tim Gent, Recresco’s General Manager, highlighted the unique opportunity for both teams to actively participate in future recycling projects in different geographies where BA Group operates. He emphasized leveraging Recresco’s know-how and experience in glass recycling to contribute to the group’s broader sustainability initiatives.
Recresco, having recently achieved operational carbon neutrality, stands out as the first UK-based glass recycling company to attain this certification. This accomplishment adds another layer of significance to the acquisition, underlining the shared commitment of both entities to environmental responsibility and circular economy practices.
