Leadership Transition at Ardagh Group
Ardagh Group S.A. (“Ardagh Group”) has announced a pivotal leadership transition as Chairman Paul Coulson has chosen to step down from his position within the company and its 76 percent-owned subsidiary, Ardagh Metal Packaging S.A. (“Ardagh Metal Packaging”), effective November 15, 2023.
Successor Named
Mr. Coulson will pass the reins to Herman Troskie, who currently serves as a director of Ardagh Group, Ardagh Metal Packaging, and ARD Holdings S.A. (“ARD Holdings”), the ultimate parent company of Ardagh Group. This transition marks the culmination of a succession plan that has unfolded over recent years, including the appointments of Oliver Graham as CEO of Ardagh Metal Packaging and Michael Dick as CEO of Ardagh Glass Packaging.
Paul Coulson’s Legacy
Mr. Coulson, aged 71, has been at the helm of Ardagh Group since 1998. Under his leadership, the company has transformed from a single-plant glass operation in Dublin with approximately USD 50 million in annual revenue into a global powerhouse in sustainable glass and metal packaging. It now operates across Europe, the Americas, and Africa, with annualized revenues exceeding USD 9 billion. While stepping down as Chairman, Mr. Coulson will continue to serve as a Director of Ardagh Group, Ardagh Metal Packaging, and ARD Holdings. He will also retain his role as the controlling shareholder of ARD Holdings.
Herman Troskie Takes the Helm
Herman Troskie, aged 53, a director of Ardagh Group, Ardagh Metal Packaging, and ARD Holdings, is set to assume the role of Chairman for all three companies, beginning in November. Mr. Troskie, currently based in Luxembourg, will transition from his current position as CEO of Corporate, Legal, and Tax Advisory at Stonehage Fleming, an international family office. He has been part of Ardagh Group’s board since 2009 and has played an integral role in the company’s growth and development.
