AGC Flat Glass Ibérica and Helexia España Commission Groundbreaking 4,600 kW Rooftop Photovoltaic Plant

AGC Flat Glass Ibérica, in collaboration with Helexia España, proudly announces the successful commissioning of a remarkable 4,600 kilowatts photovoltaic plant for self-consumption. Situated at the Port of Sagunto in Valencia, Spain, this innovative installation covers an expansive industrial site and boasts 8,800 high-performance photovoltaic modules, spanning an impressive 48,400 square meters of rooftop space – equivalent to 10 football fields. With an annual production capacity of 7 gigawatt hours, this extraordinary project will significantly contribute to environmental preservation by preventing over 800 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions annually.

AGC’s Environmental Commitment and Sustainable Vision

As a global leader in the glass industry, AGC stands at the forefront of developing environmentally conscious products and prioritizing sustainable practices. The group considers sustainability as an integral part of its corporate social values and strives to minimize its environmental impact through cutting-edge technologies and manufacturing processes. AGC has set ambitious goals, including achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, and aims for a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and a 50% reduction in GHG emissions per unit of sales by 2030. These targets encompass Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, based on 2019 levels. AGC’s commitment to energy efficiency solutions and an increased reliance on renewable energy sources across its production facilities underpins its sustainable vision.

A Powerful Partnership with Helexia España

AGC Flat Glass Ibérica, a subsidiary of AGC, has partnered with Helexia to unlock the vast photovoltaic potential of its largest industrial unit in Spain, dedicated to float glass production. Collaborating closely, AGC and Helexia have seamlessly integrated a state-of-the-art photovoltaic power plant onto the facility’s rooftop. Expertly designed and implemented by Helexia España, the plant utilizes advanced components and optimized energy utilization methods to substantially reduce AGC’s reliance on conventional energy sources. This collaboration marks the second successful photovoltaic installation by Helexia for an AGC plant in Spain, following the 210-kilowatt plant at AGC’s Pedragosa unit in Barcelona, installed in 2020.

Helexia España’s Pioneering Energy Transition Efforts

Helexia, a renowned player in the energy transition sector, has been active in Spain since 2019, delivering impressive results. With 25 commissioned projects already, including five within the Valencian Community, and a robust portfolio of over 100 megawatts to be developed nationwide in the coming years, Helexia is committed to driving energy transition and decarbonization efforts. The group has earmarked more than 1.5 billion euros for investments until 2027, with Spain as one of its priority markets, solidifying its dedication to supporting customers in their sustainable energy journey.

Uniting Forces for Climate Neutrality

Etienne Le Pargneux, Country Director of Helexia Spain, expressed his pride in collaborating with AGC on this second, even more ambitious project in Spain. Le Pargneux acknowledged AGC’s steadfast commitment to a sustainable economy and applauded this significant milestone towards accelerating its energy transition. Helexia’s mission to empower clients in achieving their financial and environmental goals aligns perfectly with AGC’s vision.

Davide Cappellino, President of AGC Architectural Glass Europe and Americas, emphasized the crucial step taken towards climate neutrality. The partnership with Helexia allows AGC to tap into the potential of renewable electricity, advancing AGC’s roadmap for glass production with a lower carbon footprint.
