Cardinal Glass Industries officially opened a dedicated manufacturing facility for its CLiC On-Demand Privacy Glass product line on October 29, 2026, at its Tomah, Wisconsin, manufacturing plant. The new facility aims to increase production capacity, shorten delivery times and expand the availability of advanced switchable glass technology.
Developed over 18 months, the facility features fully robotic production lines that enable the manufacture of larger glass panels at thinner widths, responding to customer demand. The plant now spans more than 800,000 square feet, having grown from a 60,000-square-foot overflow facility established in 1988 for insulating glass units.
To introduce visitors to the technology, Cardinal has created the CLiC “Tiny House”, a residential environment demonstrating how privacy glass performs in everyday applications.
CLiC technology provides instant privacy, switching between transparent and private states in less than 100 milliseconds. It maintains transparency at different viewing angles and is designed to last the lifetime of the window. The system uses Polymer-Stabilized Cholesteric Texture (PSCT) technology, which relies on a thin polymer network rather than thick polymer matrices or plastic interlayers.
The technology also offers energy efficiency, consuming less than one-third of a watt per square foot in clear mode and requiring no electricity in privacy mode.
“We are so proud of what we have built and our ability to now deliver CLiC at order levels that meet our customers’ requests,” said Aaron Arntson, General Manager for CLiC at Cardinal.
