Forglass has reached another milestone in the construction of the Euroglas float glass project in Lommel, Belgium, described as Europe’s largest float glass batch plant project currently under development.
The company reports that the batch plant and batch transport system are now mechanically and electrically installed, marking the completion of a major phase of the project. Forglass teams are now moving their focus to the cold end and the complete cullet return system, with the remaining mechanical and electrical installation work scheduled for completion in early October.
A key technological element of the project is the plant’s control system. Forglass is developing the complete control environment using Siemens SIMATIC PCS neo, integrating the main technological areas within its scope into a single system.
The platform will cover processes ranging from raw material handling, weighing and dosing, and batch transport to the cold end and cullet return system. It is designed to provide operators and engineers with an integrated view of process data, alarms, trends and diagnostics.
According to Forglass, once commissioned, the Lommel installation will become the world’s first full-scale float glass batch plant controlled using SIMATIC PCS neo.
