Metlen plans to invest nearly €25 million to expand its recycled aluminium operations in Greece, strengthening its capacity to process more complex aluminium scrap and increase the use of secondary metal.
The investment will support EPALME, Metlen’s subsidiary and one of Greece’s largest independent recycled aluminium producers. The facility will receive automated equipment for scrap sorting, processing and melting, enabling it to handle a wider range of feedstock, including post-consumer aluminium recovered from end-of-life products.
Under the planned model, EPALME will operate as a hub for the collection, sorting and pre-processing of aluminium scrap. The processed material will then be integrated into Metlen’s Aluminium of Greece operations in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, providing the industrial scale required to convert recycled aluminium into higher-value products.
Once fully developed, the integrated operation is expected to increase total production to more than 250,000 tonnes. 
The project combines recycling infrastructure with large-scale aluminium production, aiming to improve material efficiency and operating margins while reducing the environmental impact associated with primary aluminium production.
