During the recent Belgian economic mission to Türkiye, Ciner Glass hosted Flemish Minister-President Matthias Diependaele and Piet Demunter, CEO of Flanders Investment & Trade, at the Ciner Group headquarters in Istanbul. The delegation was welcomed by Didem Ciner, Chair of Ciner Glass, and Gökhan Şen, CEO of Ciner Glass.
The discussions focused on the company’s €600 million investment in Lommel, Belgium, a project positioned at the intersection of advanced glass manufacturing and Europe’s accelerating sustainability agenda. The facility is designed around next-generation furnace technology, optimized energy recovery systems, and increased cullet integration to reduce virgin raw material consumption and CO₂ emissions per ton of glass produced.
As Europe tightens regulatory frameworks under packaging and circular economy directives, the Lommel plant represents a strategic industrial response: high-capacity, energy-efficient glass container production aligned with long-term decarbonisation targets. The exchange also highlighted the role of industrial partnerships in strengthening regional supply chains and securing stable packaging capacity for food and beverage markets.
With commissioning approaching, Ciner Glass is establishing itself as the largest new industrial investor in Belgium, reinforcing its position within European glass packaging networks. The company is expected to play a more active role in industry federations and policy consultation platforms, contributing technical and operational expertise to the evolving sustainability standards shaping the sector.
