FGIA Releases New Window Opening Contrl Devices (WOCDs) Specification

The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) has officially released AAMA 950-25, a new specification focused on evaluating operable windows equipped with Window Opening Control Devices (WOCDs). Available now in the FGIA online store, this document aims to strengthen safety standards within the fenestration industry by ensuring that WOCDs are designed and tested to reduce accidental falls, particularly involving young children.

According to Jason Seals, FGIA Technical Manager for Fenestration Standards and U.S. Industry Affairs, “When properly designed, tested, specified and installed, WOCDs can help prevent or reduce accidental falls through open windows by young children, while maintaining emergency egress capabilities.”

The specification references ASTM F2090, Standard Specification for Window Fall Prevention Devices with Emergency Escape (Egress) Release Mechanisms, which defines performance, safety labeling, and installation requirements. AAMA 950-25 builds upon these standards to evaluate factory-installed or field-installed WOCD kits on operable windows meeting the AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440 (NAFS) performance requirements.
