On Sunday morning, a 4-foot by 6-foot glass pane fell from the 43rd floor of a 50-story building located at 1345 Sixth Avenue, near West 54th Street in Midtown Manhattan. The incident occurred around 7 a.m., and the glass pane crashed onto the sidewalk and street below. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The building’s 43rd floor is currently undergoing alteration work, and Department of Buildings (DOB) officials indicated that the floor had been damaged during construction on Friday. Following the incident, the DOB issued a violation to JRM Contracting, the firm responsible for the renovation, citing failure to safeguard the construction site.

In response to the event, the DOB has imposed a partial stop-work order on the 43rd floor and has ordered an engineering report to assess the safety of the other windows on the building. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are reviewing the cause of the glass failure as well as the precautions taken during construction.
The incident underscores the importance of stringent safety measures during construction and renovation projects, especially in densely populated urban areas. Authorities continue to monitor the situation to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
