SANAA, led by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, has revealed its design for the Taichung Green Museumbrary, a pioneering cultural complex in central Taiwan, scheduled to open on December 13, 2025. Developed with local firm Ricky Liu & Associates, the project combines a contemporary art museum, a public library, and parkland into a single integrated facility.

Located on the former Shuinan military airfield near Taichung Central Park, the complex features eight interconnected elevated volumes, creating shaded public areas and promoting natural ventilation.

Its façade uses a dual-layer system of low-emissivity glass and expanded aluminum mesh, reducing indoor temperatures by over 4°C and cutting energy use by around 6%, while allowing filtered natural light to illuminate the galleries. The exterior is complemented by pre-painted galvanized steel panels, enhancing the structure’s ethereal, luminous appearance.

Inside, a 27-meter-high central atrium connects 40,000 square feet of indoor galleries and outdoor exhibition spaces, including sky bridges and a rooftop cultural forest. A spiral ramp ensures accessibility while promoting visual continuity. By blending sustainable architecture, transparency, and public engagement, the Taichung Green Museumbrary sets a new standard for contemporary cultural hubs.
