Vitro Architectural Glass Marks 25 Years of Solarban® 60 Innovation

Vitro Glazings

Vitro Architectural Glass, North America’s leading glass manufacturer and a pioneer in sustainable solutions, is celebrating 25 years of its iconic Solarban® 60 glass. Launched in 2000, Solarban® 60 was the first double-silver, vacuum-temperable low-e glass, offering architects the flexibility for post-manufacturing fabrication.

In a typical 1-inch insulating glass unit (IGU), Solarban® 60 provides 70% visible light transmittance (VLT) and a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.39, helping reduce energy costs while enhancing occupant comfort throughout the year. Its versatility allows pairing with Vitro’s low-iron, tinted, or reflective-tinted glasses, offering both performance and aesthetic appeal.

When combined with Starphire Ultra-Clear® glass, one of the world’s clearest low-iron glasses, Solarban® 60 Starphire® glass achieves 74% VLT and an SHGC of 0.41, delivering superior clarity, daylighting, and thermal efficiency. Alternatively, pairing with Optiblue® glass provides solar control with a soft, neutral blue-gray tint, reducing glare and improving interior comfort.

Solarban® 60 continues to be featured in numerous LEED® certified and COTE® award-winning projects, maintaining its position as a top choice for architects focused on energy efficiency, daylighting, and sustainability.
