NSG Group proudly marked a historic milestone on July 5, as Pilkington Automotive Deutschland GmbH celebrated the 200th anniversary of its Witten plant in Germany. Founded in 1825 by the Müllensiefen brothers as “Wittener Glasfabrik,” the site began as a producer of handmade table glass. Over two centuries, it has transformed into a key manufacturing hub in NSG Group’s European Automotive business, now producing advanced automotive glass for vehicle manufacturers.
The celebration drew around 1,500 attendees, including employees, families, and community members. Guests enjoyed a vibrant program that included factory tours, product demonstrations, lab presentations, and exhibitions highlighting the plant’s storied evolution and cutting-edge operations.
Witten’s mayor, Lars König, praised the plant’s legacy, stating, “200 years as a glass manufacturing site is an impressive milestone. Pilkington Automotive and NSG Group are deeply embedded in our city’s identity.”
Plant manager Fabian Wirtz echoed the sentiment, expressing pride in the strong sense of unity among employees. “Today is truly special. Reaching 200 years is an extraordinary achievement, and having so many past and present team members here shows the strength of our foundation and our continued potential.”
As one of Witten’s oldest businesses, the site stands as a testament to resilience, innovation, and community, reflecting both a proud heritage and a future focused on excellence in automotive glass manufacturing.
