At glasstec 2026 in Düsseldorf, LiSEC will put service at the centre of its presentation in Hall 17, Booths A63 and A64. The focus is not simply on technical support, but on how service can improve equipment availability, process stability and the lifecycle performance of glass-processing machinery.

For today’s processors, downtime can quickly translate into lost capacity and disrupted production schedules. LiSEC’s LiSERV remote service contract addresses this through prioritised service requests, direct remote access and faster fault analysis. By resolving certain issues without an on-site intervention, the system can reduce response times and limit production interruptions.

Preventive maintenance is another major focus. Rather than waiting for component failure, structured inspections are designed to identify wear and potential problems at an earlier stage. This approach supports more predictable maintenance planning while reducing the risk of unexpected downtime.

LiSEC also considers operator competence an important part of equipment performance. Its training programmes, offered both at customer facilities and at the LiSEC Training Centre in Austria, focus on helping operators recognise deviations, perform basic adjustments and respond faster to operational issues. Better-trained teams can contribute directly to more stable processes and fewer unnecessary service interventions.

The company will also introduce its Performance Check, aimed at extracting greater productivity from existing equipment. Instead of requiring immediate investment in new machinery, LiSEC assesses processes and machine parameters to identify opportunities for process optimisation and improved equipment utilisation.

Alongside digital services such as backup and parameter management, LONGLiFE addresses the longer-term technical and economic service life of equipment.

The message is clear: service is becoming an integral part of production performance. Higher availability, shorter recovery times, better machine utilisation and extended equipment life can all contribute to more predictable and cost-efficient glass production.

HEGLA Group has completed a planned leadership transition, with Christian Decker taking over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Decker has already assumed responsibility for the group, while current CEO Bernhard Hötger will retire on 30 September 2026 after more than 42 years with HEGLA.

Decker brings extensive experience from the mechanical engineering industry, including leadership of an international mechanical engineering company. His background includes managing customer-specific machinery projects and one-off production, experience that closely aligns with HEGLA’s focus on specialised machinery and solutions for the glass-processing industry.

According to HEGLA, Decker’s industry experience and external perspective will support the company as it continues to develop its international operations and technology portfolio. His appointment completes a management transition that has been prepared over several years.

Glaston Corporation reported a challenging first half of 2026, with weaker demand for new glass processing equipment but continued resilience in its Services business.

In April–June, orders received increased slightly to EUR 38.9 million, compared with EUR 38.1 million a year earlier. Net sales declined 20% to EUR 41.5 million, reflecting the low order intake recorded during the second half of 2025. Despite lower sales, comparable EBITA remained relatively resilient at EUR 2.7 million, with the margin improving to 6.6% from 6.1%.

For January–June, orders received totaled EUR 79.4 million, while net sales reached EUR 82.5 million. Comparable EBITA was EUR 5.4 million, representing a 6.6% margin.

Services was a key area of strength. Services order intake increased 21%, driven particularly by upgrade activity in EMEA and the Americas. Glaston said pre-processing upgrades generated the strongest Services order intake in its history. Services accounted for 47% of second-quarter Group net sales.

Glaston expects market activity to remain slow through 2026, particularly in architectural glass processing. The company forecasts 2026 comparable EBITA of EUR 9–11 million, compared with EUR 14 million in 2025.

Saint-Gobain and AGC Group are joining forces to deploy the world’s largest hybrid highly electrified furnace for flat glass production at Saint-Gobain’s plant in Avilés, Spain. The project, known as FurHy, is designed to significantly reduce the carbon intensity of flat glass manufacturing by replacing the plant’s existing furnace.

Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2027, with flat glass production expected to resume in the second half of 2027. The new furnace will achieve approximately 75% electrification of the melting process, making it a major step forward in the industrial-scale electrification of flat glass manufacturing. It will operate using low-carbon electricity, supported by renewable energy supply agreements secured by Saint-Gobain in Spain.

Once operational, the furnace is expected to avoid approximately 80,000 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions annually, representing a reduction of around 50% compared with a conventional gas-fired furnace. At the same time, it is projected to save approximately 265 GWh of natural gas per year, equivalent to an 80% reduction in natural gas consumption compared with a standard gas furnace.

The FurHy project builds on the companies’ technological cooperation through the VOLTA project, a smaller-scale electrified furnace that has been operating in the Czech Republic since 2023. The pilot demonstrated the feasibility of electrification technologies for reducing emissions from flat glass melting and provided a technological foundation for the much larger Avilés installation.

The new furnace is expected to enable the production of lower-carbon flat glass meeting the best existing international standards, supporting demand from the residential, non-residential and infrastructure sectors.

The project is being developed through a technological partnership between Saint-Gobain and AGC Glass Europe and is funded by the European Union Emissions Trading System (ETS) Innovation Fund. It represents a significant industrial milestone in the transition toward lower-carbon glass manufacturing and supports Saint-Gobain’s ambition to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Pennekamp’s 4-Axis Servo Stacker LS 800 FAST 25Z is designed to deliver precise bottle handling on high-capacity glass production lines operating at up to 800 bottles per minute (BPM) while achieving up to 25 stacking cycles per minute.

The system’s four independently controlled servo axes optimise forward, lateral, compensation and lifting movements individually, ensuring each stacking cycle is precisely adapted to production requirements. A dedicated compensation axis significantly reduces unwanted bottle movement during transfer, improving stability for lightweight, tall and unstable glass containers while reducing the risk of damage.

To maximise throughput, the fourth servo axis independently raises the stacker bar during the return stroke using only the required lifting height. This increases the available time for the forward movement, enabling faster cycle times without compromising positioning accuracy. Precise servo control also ensures highly repeatable stacking cycles, supporting consistent production quality at high speeds.

Despite its performance, the LS 800 FAST requires an installation area of only approximately 850 × 850 mm, making it suitable for space-constrained production facilities.

Primetals Technologies has secured a new contract from Chinese manufacturer Lidao New Energy to supply seven Technology Control System (TCS) packages for an aluminium foil mill project at the company’s production facility in Wuhe, Bengbu City, Anhui Province.

The project will strengthen Lidao’s production capacity for battery aluminium foil, a critical material used in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, energy storage systems and other new energy applications. The seven foil mills are scheduled to be commissioned progressively through 2027.

A key feature of the project is the deployment of Primetals Technologies’ latest Integrated Solenoid Valve Electric (ISV-E) and Integrated Solenoid Valve Electric Compact (ISV-EC) systems, marking an important technological milestone for the company. The fully electric spray bar systems are designed to provide highly accurate flatness control during the rolling process, helping manufacturers produce the ultra-thin, high-quality foil required for modern battery applications.

The scope of supply also includes ABSM flatness rolls and associated TCS systems for all seven mills. Using optimised three-dimensional spray patterns, the ISV-EC technology delivers precise roll cooling and improved strip flatness, meeting the demanding quality standards of battery foil production.

Designed and assembled in the United Kingdom, the ISV spray bars are supported by Primetals Technologies’ complete range of engineering services, including design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and after-sales support.

The latest contract further expands the long-standing partnership between Primetals Technologies and Lidao New Energy. In 2022, Lidao ordered eight TCS packages, Air Bearing ShapeMeters and the original ISV spray bar systems.

A key highlight was the launch of TUROLAN, a new equipment range developed for specific applications in glass workshops and processing facilities. The range has been designed to provide practical, robust and easily integrated solutions that optimise the organisation, handling and processing of glass in everyday production environments.

Among the featured products was the SC-03M manual sorting system, engineered to organise glass sheets and packs while ensuring quick and safe access to stored material. TUROMAS also presented the CLA-77 lifting clamps, designed for secure glass transport and handling operations, and the DLL-50 portable drill, which enables operators to drill holes directly into glass surfaces with greater flexibility on the production floor.

Distecglass complemented the presentation with its portfolio of components and technical solutions for insulating glass units (IGUs), façades and window systems. The company also displayed demonstration mock-ups developed in collaboration with Sika, illustrating the application and performance of materials used in modern glazing and façade construction.

The event also highlighted the growing role of TUROMAS Mexico, the group’s regional subsidiary established to provide local sales, technical support and logistics. Operating from offices and a warehouse in Mexico City, the subsidiary maintains inventories of TUROMAS spare parts, consumables and Distecglass products, allowing faster response times for customers.
