Revolutionizing Biotech Development: Merck Unveils Spectacular eyrise® Dynamic Glazing Facade on Lake Geneva
Merck, the renowned German science and technology company, proudly presents its state-of-the-art Biotech Development Center in Switzerland. This architectural marvel features an impressive eyrise® dynamic glazing facade that seamlessly blends with the natural landscape, situated on the picturesque shores of Lake Geneva.
Collaborating for Sustainability and Efficiency
Working in close partnership with Swiss architectural firm Patriarche Architekten, the eyrise® engineering team played a vital role from the project’s inception. Together, they ensured that sustainability, energy efficiency, and optimal use of daylight were at the core of the development.
Advancing Biotechnology Research and Development
Spanning an impressive 15,700 square meters, the commercial building serves as a central hub for 250 Merck employees who were previously scattered across various locations. The interdisciplinary team’s primary focus is to propel Merck’s biotechnology research and development capabilities, driving the creation of cutting-edge biotech drugs for clinical trials.
eyrise® Facade: Harnessing Natural Light
The eyrise® s350 dynamic liquid crystal glazing facade was carefully integrated into the building design to allow an abundance of natural light to permeate the interior. Comprised of 456 triple-glazed rectangular modules, totaling an impressive 1,670 square meters of solar shading glass, the eyrise® facade ensures occupants enjoy uninterrupted panoramic views of the external environment. Each module can be instantaneously tinted to reduce glare and minimize solar heat. This remarkable feature significantly reduces energy consumption, lowering the reliance on air conditioning and artificial lighting.
Optimizing Well-being and Energy Management
Dr. Michael Grund, CEO of eyrise®, emphasizes the multifaceted benefits of the liquid crystal glass: “When designing the Biotech Development Center, our focus was not only on cutting-edge technology and digital solutions but also on sustainability. Our liquid crystal glass floods the interior with natural daylight, promoting the well-being, motivation, and creativity of employees. Moreover, it significantly contributes to highly efficient energy management.”
Transparent Privacy Solutions for Enhanced Flexibility
Inside the building, transparent privacy glazing solutions have been installed. With 142 eyrise® i350 switchable privacy glass partitions, individual areas can instantly transform into private rooms while still harnessing the benefits of abundant natural daylight.
Driving Innovation and Patient Care
Belén Garijo, CEO of Merck, underscores the strategic importance of the Biotech Development Center: “Our new center in Corsier-sur-Vevey plays a pivotal role in accelerating the delivery of life-saving medications to patients, particularly in the field of cancer research. It solidifies our leadership in the dynamic and promising biopharmaceutical development space.”
