The statistics, as reported by the Glass Packaging Action Forum, reveal that approximately 3.89 million tonnes of container glass found their way into the market in Germany over the course of the year.

A closer inspection of the data sheds light on the specific segments within the container glass market that bore the brunt of this decline. Sales of beverage bottles, encompassing various sub-segments, experienced a universal downturn. The beverage bottles segment, as a whole, witnessed a sharp decline of 16.9% in 2023 when juxtaposed with the preceding year. Delving deeper, the beer and spirits segments faced a decline of 20.2% and the wine and sparkling wine segments saw a decrease of 12.7%.
