Today, the former utility structure has been transformed into a 160 m², four-bedroom residence, organised vertically and wrapped in uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside. Central to the renovation concept was preserving the tower’s 360-degree visual connection while ensuring privacy and functional zoning within a compact footprint.

To achieve this balance, Glassolutions supplied VISIOSUN patterned glass for interior partitions throughout the home. The glass allows daylight to penetrate deep into the plan while subtly diffusing views, enabling open spatial continuity without visual exposure. Its directional pattern, installable in both vertical and horizontal orientations, adds texture and depth, reinforcing the building’s mid-century industrial identity.

Each VISIOSUN panel was further processed by Specialist Glass Products (SGP), which toughened the glass to meet safety requirements while maintaining a tight 2 mm dimensional tolerance. Precision was critical, as the panels were designed to integrate seamlessly into pre-fabricated bespoke steel frames, including complex hinge and fixing cut-outs. SGP also handled edge finishing and delivery to the constrained site location.

The Tonwell Tower project highlights how close collaboration between glass processor and specialist manufacturer can deliver technically demanding, design-led results. By combining material innovation, processing accuracy, and early-stage coordination, the project stands as a strong example of glass-driven residential transformation within a listed architectural context.
