The industry is committed to a transition to net-zero by 2050, which requires improvements in electricity infrastructure across the UK and addressing the high electricity costs when compared to non-renewable sources.

On the circularity front, Dalton stresses the need to keep glass packaging out of Deposit Return Schemes (DRS) to maximize glass collected for recycling and ensure interoperability between nations. Additionally, the industry advocates for the prevention of unprocessed waste glass exports, allowing for a true UK circular economy, and policy reforms to increase flat glass recycling.

Furthermore, Dalton highlights the vital importance of attracting new talent into the industry. He recommends following the recommendations outlined in the Manufacturing Commission report on upskilling industry, manufacturing productivity, and growth in England.
