LuxWall has announced that its Enthermal product has received a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), marking a significant step toward greater transparency in building materials and performance.

As buildings account for nearly 40% of global energy consumption and related carbon emissions, the construction sector faces increasing pressure to quantify and reduce environmental impact. The newly issued EPD provides architects, developers, and policymakers with standardized lifecycle environmental data.

According to CEO Scott Thomsen, the certification represents a shift in how the industry approaches window performance, moving toward lower-carbon, high-performance alternatives rather than material-heavy solutions.

The EPD was developed in accordance with EN 15804 + A2 and ISO 14025 standards and independently verified by EPD Hub. It evaluates Enthermal’s impact across its full lifecycle – from raw material extraction to end-of-life.

Key findings highlight Enthermal’s competitive environmental performance. The full lifecycle carbon footprint is 44.6 kg CO₂e per m², while the cradle-to-gate footprint is 38.4 kg CO₂e per m², both notably lower than conventional double- and triple-pane insulating glass units.

Additionally, LuxWall reports that 100% of electricity consumption at its Michigan manufacturing facility is matched with renewable energy certificates.

Unlike traditional insulating glass units, Enthermal uses vacuum insulation technology that significantly reduces conductive and convective heat transfer. This allows windows to perform more like insulated walls, improving building efficiency without compromising transparency.

The EPD also supports compliance with major certification frameworks such as LEED, BREEAM, and WELL, where verified environmental data is increasingly required.

As embodied carbon regulations evolve globally, solutions like Enthermal address one of the building envelope’s weakest points – windows – by enabling significant reductions in heat loss and energy demand in both retrofit and new construction projects.

The United States House of Representatives recently passed H.R. 1, a budget bill that proposes to repeal or modify crucial clean energy programs and rescind funds allocated by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). This development has significant implications for the clean energy sector and, by extension, various industries, including the glass and glazing industry, which has begun to leverage the IRA’s incentives.

The Inflation Reduction Act, enacted in 2022, has been a cornerstone of federal efforts to accelerate the transition to a cleaner energy economy. It has provided substantial tax incentives and funding for a wide array of clean energy initiatives. For the glass and glazing industry, the IRA has offered tangible benefits, such as tax credits for electrochromic glass, substantial appropriations to support the adoption of energy-efficient building codes at state and local levels, and billions in grants for retrofitting and upgrading building efficiency technologies.

Beyond specific industry benefits, the IRA has also spurred programs focused on building decarbonization, exemplified by initiatives like the United States General Services Administration’s Green Proving Ground program. Since its inception, the IRA has directed over $90 billion towards clean energy technologies and building sector improvements, with nearly $50 million already disbursed to projects aimed at decarbonizing buildings.

H.R. 1, in its current form, targets several key provisions of the IRA. Notably, it seeks to terminate the Section 45Y Clean Energy Production Credit and the Section 48E Clean Electricity Investment Credit for facilities not commencing construction within 60 days of the bill’s enactment or placed in service after the end of 2028. Other IRA provisions under threat include the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, the High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Program, State-Based Home Efficiency Contractor Training Grants, and various Clean Energy Production Tax Credits.

The potential ramifications of H.R. 1 are significant. Analysis from Princeton University estimates that repealing current federal energy and climate policies could lead to an annual increase of approximately 0.5 billion metric tons in U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, escalating to over 1 billion metric tons by 2035. Economically, a repeal could translate to an annual increase in U.S. household and business energy expenditures of $25 billion by 2030, potentially exceeding $50 billion by 2035. This would also burden average U.S. households with increased energy costs, ranging from roughly $100 to $160 per year in 2030 and approximately $270 to $415 per year in 2035. Furthermore, such a repeal could jeopardize a substantial $522 billion in pending investments in U.S. clean energy supply and manufacturing.

The legislative move to target clean energy tax credits stems from ongoing political arguments that the costs associated with the IRA’s energy and climate provisions are deemed unnecessary, burdensome, expensive, and contribute to the national deficit.

H.R. 1 has now advanced to the Senate for consideration, where its fate will have profound implications for the future of clean energy development and related industries in the United States.

In the heart of Austria’s picturesque countryside, the Vetropack plant in Kremsmünster is leading the charge towards a more sustainable future.

Through a series of strategic expansion stages, the company is steadily increasing its reliance on solar power, transforming its energy landscape and paving the way for a greener tomorrow.

The journey began with the installation of photovoltaic systems on the plant’s roofs, which now boast a total capacity of 4.18 MWp. These systems generate an impressive 4,469 MWh of solar power, enough to power the equivalent of 410 households annually. But Vetropack’s ambitions don’t stop there.

By 2026, the company plans to further expand its solar infrastructure, with the installation of additional photovoltaic systems that will collectively generate over 8 MWh of clean energy – the equivalent of 2,000 households’ annual consumption. This ambitious project, undertaken in collaboration with the renowned Austrian energy company VERBUND, demonstrates Vetropack’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

The strategic placement and integration of the photovoltaic systems ensure that 100% of the generated electricity can be directly channeled into the plant’s production processes, maximizing the impact of this renewable energy source. The result? A significant reduction in the company’s carbon footprint, with an estimated saving of 345 tons of CO2 per year.

Vetropack’s pioneering efforts have not gone unnoticed. In April 2024, the first expansion stage of the plant’s photovoltaic system became the focus of VERBUND’s “Solar energy from our own power” campaign, showcasing the company’s leadership in the renewable energy transition. Managing Director Johann Eggerth proudly serves as a testimonial, inspiring other energy-intensive businesses to follow Vetropack’s example and join the movement towards a greener future.

As the sun’s rays shine brightly over the Kremsmünster facility, Vetropack’s investment in solar energy stands as a testament to its dedication to sustainable practices and its role as a trailblazer in the industry. This innovative approach not only reduces the company’s environmental impact but also serves as a shining example for others to follow, paving the way for a more sustainable tomorrow.

Located at the entrance to the renowned Green Coast in Palasa, this impressive 4,500 square meter complex represents a significant milestone in the development of Albania’s tourism and retail sectors. Described by industry expert Samir Mane as a transformative investment that will benefit the region for years to come, Galeria By TEG is poised to become the premier destination for shopping, dining, and leisure along the Albanian Riviera.

Albania’s tourism industry has experienced a remarkable surge in recent years, with the country ranking among the most optimistic European destinations in terms of visitor growth. This upward trend is expected to continue, fueling the demand for high-quality, versatile facilities that cater to the evolving needs of both tourists and local residents.

Mr. Mane mentioned, “We will soon witness the opening of more establishments, such as 46 restaurants and bars, as well as 7 luxury hotels from renowned global brands, with 4 of them currently being built.”

Galeria By TEG rises to the occasion, boasting a diverse portfolio of well-known brands and a rich tapestry of shopping, dining, and entertainment options. From fashion and electronics to gourmet cuisine and leisure activities, this cutting-edge complex is designed to offer a comprehensive experience that reflects the aspirations of the Green Coast and the broader Albanian Riviera.

With a range of high-end amenities, including underground parking, children’s playgrounds, and a Blue Flag-certified beach, Green Coast is poised to become the most sought-after destination in the region.

For investors, the allure of the Green Coast and the wider Albanian Riviera is undeniable. Reinaldo Pipiria, the Executive Director of the National Albanian Real Estate Association (NAREA), highlights the consistent growth in property values and the increasing demand for coastal residences, driven by the strategic location and exceptional services offered by developments like Green Coast.

70% of the building surface of the residential complex, luxury villas, shopping center, restaurants and bars, 5-star hotels are made of glass and of course at the basis of the super quality project is also the highest quality glass, where the Guardian Glass Europe and their representative for Albania Mr. Erion Sico, helped with the specification and installation of the highest quality glass, which includes components such as: exceptional solar control and light transmission – plus high thermal insulation with a clean, natural look and subtle reflective quality that achieves an extremely uniform aesthetic across of design contours and different viewing angles.

As Albania continues to capture the attention of global travelers and savvy investors, the launch of Galeria By TEG represents a pivotal moment in the country’s tourism and real estate landscape. With its unparalleled offerings and the broader transformation of the Green Coast, this new shopping center is set to unlock a new era of prosperity and opportunity along the stunning shores of the Albanian Riviera.

In a recent proposal put forth by the Valencian Regional Association of Flat Glass (REVIP), the focus on renewing the stock of windows and glass enclosures has been highlighted as a crucial step towards meeting the ambitious targets set by the Government’s National Energy and Climate Plan.

With a goal to rehabilitate 1,200,000 homes by 2030 and 7 million homes by 2050 in terms of envelope and energy efficiency, the significance of this initiative cannot be overstated.

The president of REVIP, Vicente Cervera, emphasized the positive impact that renewing the window stock in Spain could have on advancing towards the climate neutrality objective outlined by the European Union. By updating the national housing stock with energy-efficient windows, we can make substantial progress towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing the overall energy efficiency of buildings.

One of the key advantages of focusing on window renewal, as pointed out by industry experts, is that it is a more accessible and cost-effective solution for both individual homeowners and communities compared to other energy-saving measures such as thermal insulation of façades. By paying special attention to the building envelope and prioritizing the replacement of glazing and windows, we can significantly decrease the demand for heating and cooling, leading to substantial energy savings.

The European Parliament has set a target of achieving a 55 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the upcoming legislature. To meet this ambitious goal, the Flat glass sector plays a strategic role in curbing CO2 emissions by reducing energy consumption in buildings and enhancing photovoltaic efficiency. By adopting double or triple glazing systems, low-emissivity glass, and solar control technologies, buildings can minimize energy loss by up to 30 percent.
Vicente Cervera stressed the importance of incentivizing and promoting the replacement of windows with advanced energy-efficient solutions. By embracing innovative glazing technologies, we can not only enhance the comfort and aesthetics of buildings but also contribute significantly to energy conservation and environmental sustainability.

In conclusion, the proposal to focus on window renewal as a means to improve energy efficiency is a vital step towards achieving our environmental goals. By investing in the modernization of windows and glass enclosures, we can pave the way for a more sustainable future while simultaneously benefiting from reduced energy costs and enhanced building performance. It is imperative that stakeholders across the industry collaborate and take proactive measures to drive this important initiative forward.
